The supervisory board of the company running the Salzburg bid (Salzburg Winterspiele 2014 GmbH) unanimously approved the budget for Salzburg’s bid to host the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games in 2014 at a meeting held on 28th November 2006. At the same time, the Budget Committee of the Austrian Parliament in Vienna made its decision on the national liability. The budget, which was drawn up by national and international experts, was again discussed intensively and in detail. One of the main topics at the meeting was the clarification of individual budget items, which was discussed by financial experts from the City, the State of Salzburg, and Salzburg Winterspiele 2014 GmbH. The unanimous decision is proof that the budget was satisfactory for all the participants. This means that a balanced operating budget, which will enable the Games to be run in accordance with IOC criteria, can now be presented to the IOC. At the same time as the supervisory board’s decision on Tuesday, the Budget Committee of the Austrian Parliament also showed solidarity and agreed on national liability of 40 % of the liability amount for extraordinary events. The official decision was made on Wednesday in the plenum of the National Council. Fedor Radmann, head of the Salzburg 2014 bid, is currently attending IOC discussions and a meeting of the IOC Executive Board in Kuwait and was therefore unable to participate in the supervisory board meeting. He was very pleased with the unanimous decision, saying “For the bid office, this decision is an endorsement of all our consistent and excellent work so far. The news I was given was also received by the IOC members present with a great deal of satisfaction. It would have been incomprehensible if there had been any decision other than the positive status of Salzburg as a Candidate City.” Leo Wallner, President of the Austrian Olympic Committee, is also very happy about the decision on national liability, saying, “I think that the decision on liability made by the Parliamentary Budget Committee shows that the bid is a real opportunity for the nation and that it has even greater national support. From conversations with my IOC colleagues, I have the impression that this national support for the Salzburg 2014 bid is very highly valued.” Raimund Fabi • Media Coordinator • Tel. +43 662 422014-19 • Mobil +43 664 2266682 Alexandra Knoke • Media Coordinator • Tel. +43 662 422014-19 • FAX +43 662 422014-50 alexandra.knoke@salzburg2014.com |
