World Cup events in Austria secured | Salzburg 2014 presented at home winter sports events 08.12.06
Cancellation after cancellation in the international circus of the winter sports world, but not in Austria: at the weekend, despite worldwide weather upsets, the Biathlon World Cup takes place in Hochfilzen along with the great combination of the men competing in the alpine Ski World Cup on the Reiteralm at Schladming.

The Salzburg Winter Games 2014 Bid Committee will use the home World Cup events in the winter sports season 2006/07 to make plans for the Salzburg bid for the Olympic and Paralympic Games 2014 more real for fans and media representatives. A newly-produced film will stir up feelings during the events and contact with winter sports fans will be sought through information stands and the distribution of flyers and newsletters.
This winter the World Cup programme in Austria is once again very impressive: one highlight is the women’s alpine speed skiing competition in Altenmarkt/Zauchensee, one of the planned events for the Winter Games in Salzburg 2014. After Christmas the women’s technical competition at the Semmering will be part of the programme.

This season the men’s skiing World Cup will take place in Hinterstoder, Schladming and Kitzbühel as well as the Reiteralm, and more than 100,000 excited fans will once again line the pistes.
Naturally, two sections of the traditional ski jumper Four Hills Tournament will again be held in Austria: after the event at New Year in Innsbruck-Igls the final jump will take place on 7th January in Bischofshofen, which is also planned as a location for the Olympic Games 2014.

The Koenigssee ice channel, which has also been earmarked as a location for the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games 2014, plays host to the toboggan World Cup, the bobsleigh World Cup, the bobsleigh World Cup final and the skeleton World Cup as well as the World Cup final.
Up-and-coming athletes will also use the traditionally excellent conditions for competing at the end of the season in Austria. At the "FIS Alpine Junior World Championships" in Zauchensee and Flachau, an intended location for part of the alpine ski competition, the stars of the future will battle for the precious metal that signals their success.
