Salzburg 2014 has fulfilled the IOC’s request for 22,800 hotel rooms and right on time: The print of the Candidate City bid books will be delivered on 10 January 2007. 23,500 rooms were contractually guaranteed.
1,500 single contracts Thanks to an intense cooperation with all parties involved the contracts were signed on time. The hoteliers within the 50km radius around the city of Salzburg and the 10km radius around the snow venues showed their support for Salzburg’s bid for the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games 2014. Overall, Rudolf Höller, Bid Operations Director Salzburg 2014, signed 1,500 single contracts to achieve this impressive total of 23,500. „We would especially like to thank our different working groups in the communities and the city of Salzburg as well as the personal efforts of their respective Mayors, the tourism associations “Tourismus Stadt Salzburg”, “Berchtesgadener Land Tourismus”, “Salzburger Land Tourismus” with its regional associations and the “Wirtschaftskammer Salzburg”.“ Since last May, briefing sessions took place informing and advising the hoteliers and landlords before they signed their contracts. The managing director of „ Salzburger Land Tourismus“, Leo Bauernberger, was convinced from the very beginning that the goal could be achieved: „I was always sure that we could reach the requested number of rooms before the deadline. That underlines again the abilities and the sense of responsibility of Salzburg Tourism and its hoteliers and landlords.” All contracts in regards to the guaranteed amount of existing rooms underline that the hospitality and hotel infrastructure in Salzburg is excellent. Many of the hotels are family owned as they have been for generations. The Olympic Family, sponsors, guests and media representatives can expect a warm winter welcome, should Salzburg be honoured with hosting the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games 2014.
