Salzburg 2014 with ambitious legacy proposal to the Olympic Movement - During presentation at SportAccord, Salzburg 2014 details plans for 5 continental NOC Training Centres 25.04.07
In Beijing, the host city of the next Olympic Summer Games, Salzburg 2014 passed another milestone in its bid for hosting the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games 2014: In its presentation in front of a highly knowledgeable crowd including numerous IOC members, Salzburg 2014 represented by Heinz Schaden, Chairman and President of Salzburg 2014, Gabi Burgstaller, Governor of the State of Salzburg, Franz Klammer, Chairman International, Leo Wallner, President of the Austrian Olympic Committee (AOC) and Gernot Leitner, Executive Director of Salzburg 2014, showed its desire to host the 2014 Winter Games and stressed one of its most valuable point of sales – legacy.

“Should Salzburg have the honour to host the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games 2014, our plan includes an ambitious legacy proposal that provides a direct benefit to the Federations and the athletes for both summer and winter sport. The alpine wooden chalets that accommodate the athletes in the Snow Village will be re-used creating 5 continental NOC training centres to be in place after the Games. Doing so, every NOC will be offered guaranteed accommodation in those chalets so that its athletes can compete, train and stay in the heart of Europe. Every continent can take advantage of 10,000 overnight stays per year and use the excellent competition venues that are already in place,” explained Gernot Leitner, Executive Director of Salzburg 2014.

Heinz Schaden, Chairman and President of Salzburg 2014, leading the delegation with passion and high efforts towards the decision in Guatemala City on 4 July, gave evidence to the audience that Salzburg undoubtedly can achieve its high goals of giving back to the Olympic Movement by hosting the Winter Games 2014 in Salzburg.

Schaden stated: “Thanks to the expertise and advice during the visit of the IOC Evaluation Commission in Salzburg in mid-March, we strengthened our plan accordingly by e.g. increasing the number of beds in the snow village to now over 2000, by confirming unlimited financial guarantees from the Austrian Government for the OCOG and Non-OCOG costs and on top of that jumpstarting the Games with an investment of125 Million US $.”

Schaden continued that Winter Games in Salzburg in 2014 would have great impact on the entire Olympic Movement for years to come delivering magic at the Games at a level the world has not seen since Lillehammer.

“We will have passionate, cheering fans that fill every stadium plus an atmosphere outside the arenas that capture the imagination of the world. We will create a level of magic, a spirit of celebration that will lead to greater benefits for the entire Olympic Movement. Broadcast partners will pay a premium for that atmosphere, sponsors will want to catch that spirit, and young people will come back to winter sports to be a part of that family”, said Schaden. “We will combine the brand of the Olympic Winter Games with the brand of Salzburg and get a combination that will rock the world. The concept of Salzburg2014 does not offer any risk, only returns and a global boost to the Olympic Movement as the greatest legacy of all. Salzburg is ready to celebrate the magic of Winter Sport and of Olympic Winter Games.”
