The annual World Congress of the International Sports Press Association (AIPS) provides the perfect platform for the three candidate cities for the 2014 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games to present their concepts to more than 300 journalists from around the world.
Salzburg is sending a prominent delegation to Bregenz. Austrian Chancellor, Alfred Gusenbauer, is giving the inaugural address in Austrias westernmost city. In addition, the core of the delegation consists of Mayor of Salzburg and President of the Salzburg 2014 bid, Heinz Schaden, as well as Salzburg 2014 Ambassadors Felix Gottwald, himself a double Olympic champion, and world-class snowboarder Manuela Riegler, together with Executive Directors Gernot Leitner and Rudolf Hoeller. Salzburg 2014 also has a stand in the exhibition area, which offers journalists material and information on the bid. Leo Wallner, IOC Member and President of the OEOC: I am delighted that the Sports Journalists Associations of Austria, Switzerland and Liechtenstein are hosting this year's AIPS congress. We often forget that sport journalists are the most important partners of sporting events, in particular the Olympic Games. Without them, sport enthusiasts at home would not be able to enjoy the games, and the greatest moments in sporting history would never have been documented. It is unfortunate that journalists are often refused the necessary recognition for their work. I wish the congress great success. Austria is a country of sport enthusiasts. For this reason, especially sport journalists in Austria are held in high esteem. Should Salzburg be awarded the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games 2014, then international journalists would be able to enjoy this journalist-friendly atmosphere. |
