|
Salzburg 2014, the team leading the campaign to bring the 2014 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games to Austria, today confirmed that Anton Schutti, its current Chief Executive, will return to Sports Aid in Vienna as Managing Director. Simultaneously, the internationally renowned sports businessman Fedor Radmann who, along with Franz Beckenbauer, played an integral role in bringing the 2006 FIFA World Cup to Germany has been appointed as his successor.
Speaking of the changes, Dr Heinz Schaden, Mayor of the City of Salzburg and head of the advisory board of Salzburg 2014 said: “These changes reflect the fact that Salzburg’s bid campaign is constantly evolving and will move into a new era with, we hope, Candidate City status in June. Anton has accomplished a lot during these first few months of the bid, especially in the field of sponsorship and we are very thankful to him. It is time now to prepare for the next phase. “Fedor Radmann is an international heavyweight from neighbouring Berchtesgaden and we are very proud that one of the most renowned personalities in international sports has agreed to become the bid Chief Executive. Fedor has a great combination of knowledge, ability and passion and he will be a major asset for us.” Speaking of his return to Sports Aid in Vienna as Managing Director, Anton Schutti said: “I have realized that above all, the athletes are the most important thing for me. I have been with them for 25 years, it’s not only a profession, it’s a passion. Now is the natural time for me to return to Sports Aid.” Fedor Radmann said: “This appointment is a huge honour for me, particularly as I have such strong links to Salzburg. I went to secondary school at Hanusch Place in Salzburg. It left indelible marks, most of all professor Kaserer, my sports teacher. To him I owe my love and passion for sports and I hope to be able to repay my debt to Salzburg by helping us achieve the great honour of hosting the Winter Games in 2014. “Now we have to ensure the professionalism and passion for the bid is combined with all the strengths of Austria. Salzburg’s bid is Austria’s bid, and I’m hugely excited by what lies ahead.” IOC member and president of the Austrian Olympic Committee, Leo Wallner, added: “I have known Fedor for many years and I’m delighted that one of the most experienced insiders in the world of sports has agreed to join the team of Salzburg 2014.” Football legend Franz Beckenbauer, who will also act as an ambassador for Salzburg 2014 added: “Whilst we need Fedor to continue to play a key role until the end of the World Cup, he is a brilliant multi-tasker and I know will be more than capable of balancing his time in the next few months. I’m delighted that he’s been appointed Salzburg’s CEO. Fedor is a great choice to make Salzburg´s dream of hosting the Winter Games in 2014 come true.“ Fedor Radmann will take over the management of Salzburg 2014 immediately although he will see through his consultancy contract for the steering committee of the Organising Committee of the 2006 FIFA World Cup. He will begin working full time for the bid at the end of the 2006 tournament.
