The leadership of the Olympic Movement gathered in Seoul, South Korea this week for one of the largest gatherings of sport executives outside the Olympic Games. More than 200 National Olympic Committees were present for the 15th General Assembly of the Association of National Olympic Committees, more than 50 International Sports Federations were here for Sport Accord and the IOC Executive Board is holding a session this week as well.
Salzburg 2014 took advantage of this prestigious gathering to formally introduce new CEO Fedor Radmann to the Olympic Movement and to establish fresh momentum for the bid as the campaign heads toward the IOC’s Candidate City decision in the later part of June. “For the 2014 bid cities,” said Mayor Heinz Schaden, who led a delegation of six into Seoul, “this ranks as one of the most important meetings on the international sports schedule. The large number of IOC Members and sports leaders gathered here gave us an extraordinary opportunity to introduce our new CEO, Fedor Radmann—and our executive team—to members from all over the world.” The Salzburg team met with more than 50 IOC members during the week and Schaden and Radmann had the opportunity to meet personally with IOC President Jacques Rogge and the ANOC President Mario Vasquez Rana, among others. “In many ways,” said Radmann, “this was a breakthrough meeting for us. We were able to establish fresh relationships with dozens of old friends and humbly introduce the vision of Salzburg 2014 to dozen of members and sport leaders we hadn’t met before.” Along with Schaden and Radmann, Austrian Olympic Committee President Leo Wallner and Secretary General Heinz Jungwirth networked through the assembly during meetings, receptions, dinner and coffee breaks. Three bid team executives—Bid Operations Director Rudi Hoeller, Games Plan Director Gernot Leitner and Andreja Wieser, who just joined the bid’s International Relations team—were also putting into 12 hour days building relationships and creating positive news for the campaign. Showing its sensitivity to the diversity of membership within the Olympic Movement, the Salzburg 2014 team distributed a newsletter and an image brochure in six languages—English, French, German, Spanish, Russian and Arabic. “We accomplished all of our goals in Seoul,” said Radmann. “We arrived believing we have a strong technical plan and a magical city to offer the IOC. I’m leaving confident that the professionalism and dedication demonstrated by team here will help advance our cause. Since this is my first international meeting with Mayor Schaden and the team, I was extremely pleased the high level of motivation we displayed here.” “Watching the team work,” said Mayor Schaden, “and seeing the positive response of so many sport leaders to Fedor Radmann, gives me a true sense of optimism about this bid as we look to the future. Austria has a very good chance to succeed in this Olympic dream.” (Salzburg, 3.4.2006) For further information please contact: Mike Lee, Salzburg 2014 Bid Committee Heinz Schaden, Mayor of Salzburg Sabine Blattner, Salzburg 2014 Bid Committee |
