On the eve of Austria hosting the United Nations European Youth Leadership Summit, Salzburg 2014, the team leading the campaign to bring the 2014 Winter Olymic Games and Paralympic Games to Austria, today committed to using the 2014 Games as a catalyst to inspire greater understanding among the worlds youth.
Dr Heinz Schaden, Mayor of Salzburg and head of the Salzburg 2014 advisory board said: Sport is a poweful force to bring people together and Salzburg would be honoured to play its part in helping to achieve this aim. Tomorrows UN conference of youth leaders, here in our home country, is an inspiration to all of us in the Salzburg bid committee to work tirelessly to ensure that if we are awarded the great honour of hosting the 2014 Winter Games, we will do our utmost to help promote undertanding, particularly across the youth of the world. Fedor Radmann bid CEO added: We believe that a Host City needs to offer more than just a technically strong Games - it needs to bring added value to the Olympic movement. Reaching out and inspiring the youth of the world, not just to embrace Winter Olympic and Paralympic sports, but to build understanding across nations, is somethig that Salzburg 2014 is 100% committed to. If we are fortunate enough to be granted Candidate City status later this month, Salzburg 2014 will work hard to explore the most effective ways we can help promote these elements both within Austria and globally.
