Salzburg has passed a major test in its quest to bring the 2014 Winter Olympic Games and Paralympic Games to Austria when it was short-listed as a Candidate City by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) today. The IOC’s decision is a further milestone in Salzburg’s bid and marks an important step in Austria’s efforts to bring the Games back to the nation 38 years after Innsbruck 1976.
A senior Salzburg 2014 delegation was present in Lausanne to receive the news which included: The Mayor of Salzburg, Dr Heinz Schaden, the Governor of Salzburg, Mag Gabi Burgstaller, the CEO of Salzburg 2014, Fedor Radmann, Austria NOC President Dr Leo Wallner and NOC Secretary General Dr Heinz Jungwirth. Mayor Dr Heinz Schaden said: “This is a great day for our city, our state and all of Austria, which is unified in its support for our bid. We have listened and learned since our previous bid and adjusted our plans accordingly. The feedback from the Olympic movement has made Salzburg stronger and hopefully an even better location for the Winter Olympic Games in 2014.“ Salzburg 2014 CEO Fedor Radmann said: “I would like to express my appreciation to the IOC for their selection of Salzburg as a Candidate City. I am delighted with the recognition we received today confirming that our plans are strong and robust. As CEO of the bid I know that we’re ready, we’ve put together the most compact Winter Games plan in the last 30 years and we passionately want to celebrate the magic of winter sport with the world in Salzburg in 2014.” Governor Mag Gabi Burgstaller added: “We congratulate the other Candidate Cities for the high-quality of their plans and their success in joining the last stages of the 2014 race. We admire the work they have done, the plans they have put together and the way they have campaigned to date. As true Olympic competitors, each of them has pushed us forward and made us stronger. We look forward to competing with these worthy opponents all the way to Guatemala City.” ends Notes to Editors For further informations please contact: |
