This is Salzburgs second consecutive Olympic Winter bid and Austrias fourth.* In its last campaign, Salzburg lost the right to host the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games to Vancouver, Canada, but the lessons learned in the process have put the city in a far better position to compete for the 2014 Games.
In fact, Salzburg has based its new plan for 2014 on the insights and critiques offered by the IOC in its 2010 Evaluation Commission Report. Based on those recommendations, Salzburg orchestrated three major changes in the focus of its 2014 plan, each of which eliminated a weakness in its first bid, creating: greater government support, a magical experience for the athletes and Olympic Family, and a game plan of true technical excellence.
