Seven Applicant Cities have entered the race to win the right to host the 2014 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games: Sochi, Russia; Salzburg, Austria; Jaca, Spain; Almaty, Kazahstan; PyeongChang, South Korea; Sofia, Bulgaria and Borjomi, Georgia.
After the Games in Torino, the IOC will review the Applicant City Questionnaires which were submitted on February 1, 2006. On June 22nd, the IOC Executive Board will announce which of the Applicants have qualified to become Candidate Cities and the 2014 Race will enter its final year of competition.
As the list that follows indicates, the 2014 Race will unfold in a series of milestones that culminate in Final Presentations by the Candidate Cities in July of 2007 in Guatemala City.

| 21st -23rd June 2006 | The IOC selects the Candidate Cities. The standards for the Candidature File, as well as the exact procedure are communicated to each Candidate City by the IOC. |
