A Game Plan of True Technical Excellence
At 55 minutes end-to-end, Salzburg’s plan is the most compact Winter Games model in the last three decades. Featuring One Olympic Village and a single Medals Plaza in the heart of the city, the plan is configured with two major venue clusters – with the ice events in Salzburg and the snow events in the mountains just south of the city. The sliding center at Königssee is basically in between. 73% of the venues – 8 of 11 – currently exist and regularly host major winter events. Eight are aligned along the A1 and A10 Autobahns; and 83% of the venues – all but two – have rail access. The airport and the Main Media Center sit in the centre of the city as well. An optional Snow Village in Radstadt will provide 1,500 beds for the athletes and teams who prefer to stay within minutes of their competition sites. With both Villages factored in, the average travel times to venues is 12 minutes.
